“Good alignment is good therapy.” As such, Alignment Yoga, seeks to improving overall resilience through yoga postures and breathwork, mobility training, and meditation. When the body, mind and heart are clear and aligned to our highest potential, we feel more open, creative, at peace and more capable of meeting all of life’s challenges with courage and grace.
In Alignment Yoga students learn how to:
- Apply principles of alignment and principles of movement to reduce the risk of injury and improve posture, joint mobility, and physical endurance.
- Focus the mind and strengthen the connection to their inner source through breathing work, meditation and visualization.
- Naturally broaden their self-definition while experiencing, more fully, the joy of living.
This class is inspired by my own experience and practice of alignment-based yoga and other mind-body practices, including Anusara yoga, Iyengar yoga, functional mobility training and yoga therapy.
Somatic Yoga – A practice of meditation in movement and inward listening.
Somatic Yoga is a gentle form of therapeutic yoga that promotes body awareness and awakening through joint mobility movements, yoga postures, and breathing. In a Somatic Yoga class, students are guided through a series of movements that open and involuntarily stretch the body. Throughout the class, students are invited to “experience the sensation of moving the body”. Somatic Yoga serves as a great preparation for regular postural yoga classes. Its main intention is to:
- balance the nervous system,
- help students bring movement and prana to areas of the body that may be dormant or stuck, and
- help students manage stress or chronic pain, improve coordination and return to the present moment.
“I’m so relaxed, I feel like I just left the massage therapist’s office.” -Somatic Yoga student.
